Well hello there art lover. I’ve been getting quite a few questions lately about how to commission custom artwork, so I thought I’d break it down.
Maybe you’ve seen a piece that you LOVE, but it’s not the right size? Or perhaps you want a small colour change. Creating a custom artwork for your wall could be the perfect solution - but it does involve a collaborative creative process (and sometimes it can be hard to know how to start)
In this blog post I’m aiming to provide simple answers to everything you might want to know about custom artwork.
Here we go:
1. What exactly is a commission/custom artwork?
A commission is basically a one-of-a-kind piece of art created just for you. That could mean an original painting, a bespoke pattern design, or an illustration. I create personal pieces for the home and also artwork that can be digitally printed for brands. The final product is different for each project, but the process is essentially the same.
2. How do I get started?
It’s Easy! Just send me an email or fill out the inquiry form on my website. We’ll chat about what you’re looking for—things like size, colors, subject matter, and themes you have in mind. Don’t worry if you’re not sure exactly what you want—that’s what I’m here for! I can help guide you based on your preferences.
3. What details do I need to provide?
Here are some helpful things to consider before you reach out:
Size and dimensions (how big or small you want the piece)
Colour palette (do you have favorite colours you want incorporated?)
Subject matter (florals, abstracts, landscapes… if you have examples of work you like or photos of subjects you want to capture this can be SUPER helpful. The more information you provide in this area, the better.)
Budget (this helps me figure out how to bring your vision to life within your price range)
4: Can I see progress updates?
Absolutely! I love keeping my clients in the loop. I’ll share progress photos along the way so you can see how the piece is evolving. That way, we can make sure everything is going in the right direction and tweak anything if needed.
